Javier Gil Vieco
“Question every design move and consider how it will affect every other aspect of the project.”
Having studied at the ETSAM in Madrid and trained to be an all-around, multi-disciplinary architect, Javier questions every design move and considers how it will affect every other aspect of the project. His strong background in urban planning allows him to evaluate the physical and socioeconomic context of each project in order to better understand its influence on its surroundings. Prior to joining ATA, Javier spent eight years at the Chicago office of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, where he worked on healthcare projects and large mixed-use and commercial developments. He finds the most rewarding part of architecture is witnessing the process of an abstract idea materialize into tangible form.
- Masters of Architecture – Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid – Madrid
- Registered Architect in the states of Illinois and Florida, and in Spain
- Photographic work featured in three exhibitions within the series “100 Years of National Parks” at the G2 Gallery in Venice, CA
An avid traveler and photographer, Javier has been to 45 U.S. states and six of the seven continents. The search for the perfect photograph has occasionally put him in less than ideal spots – sometimes unintentionally so. From close encounters with bears and alligators, to taking pictures with half his body hanging out an SUV in Africa just a few meters from three lions, to spending a night camped in what turned out to be a controversial site on a Sioux reservation in South Dakota, Javier has lived some great adventures.
