Iconic Views in Beverly Hills
The project site is located in the Trousdale Estates neighborhood of Beverly Hills, originally developed in the 1950s. The original developer, Paul Trousdale, graded flat pad lots in the hillside and limited building heights to fourteen feet in order to preserve stunning views of the city below for all home owners.
The Client, a young bachelor, purchased an original home and entrusted the ATA design team to renovate it for the modern era while preserving its unique form. The home was opened up to create panoramic views and ceilings were raised to the maximum height to create a loft-like interior in the living room. Lower ceilings were left in the kitchen and den so that clearstory windows could enhance the floating nature of the roof above. The entire exterior and interior palette was stripped down and refinished to reflect the minimalist modern style of the new owner.
The living area is enclosed by two sprawling sliding glass walls. When open, a portal is created from the back pool through the living room and onto the front patio, allowing panoramic views from all parts of the site. This creates a Southern Californian flow which transforms the home to its fullest potential.
